Painting and Drawing Art

Drawing and painting are arguably the oldest manifestations of fine art in the world. Simply put, painting and drawing are the application of materials to a base to create an image. In the earliest records of painting, humans used natural pigments to draw pictures of animals on the walls of caves. Of course, the times have certainly changed and both painting and drawing are far more advanced than their humble beginnings. There are now instruments, such as drawing pencils and paint brushes, that make creating a painting or drawing much easier, with many different materials that are specially made for use in making one of these fine art pieces.

Despite their far removed locations, painting and drawing developed in roughly the same manner over the world. The development of oil and watercolor paints happened both in Europe and Asian countries where art began to become a treasured practice. However, most art experts consider Europe to be where most of the changes in painting took place as there were a number of movements that helped to broaden the scope of painting styles and practice. The Classical, Renaissance, and Impressionist periods were all instrumental in paving the way towards the modern painting style.

In contemporary painting and drawing, there is much more freedom than in previous movements. Artists are at liberty to play with line structure and to incorporate abstraction into their works. In an alternate direction, some of the artists are choosing to use hyperrealism, a style where the final product is meant to look as close to real life as possible. Also in the contemporary world of painting and drawing, many artists are using computer tools to help design and execute the completion of a new project. Many programs can be used to make a drawing and digital or computer painting is a new realm that is growing in popularity.
